Recertification
What is a CEU? A CEU is defined as a continuous education unit. This is an element organizations use to count constant education experience under competent bearing, responsible sponsorship, and qualified instruction.
How do I receive CEU’s? Individuals submit representative samples of the offering, which is then reviewed for compliance with the standards the organization has imposed. The CEU is an enduring record of the educational accomplishments of an individual who has completed one or more notable educational experiences.
How do I submit my documentation? It’s advised that individuals maintain a personal file of activities and achievements in the spreadsheet that will be provided to you. You must complete the provided application and also submit an updated resume and all verification information.
When should I submit documentation? Certified individuals must attain recertification every four years from the month and year certification was originally granted. Once you have accumulated 120 units and are due to recertify, an application with documentation and fees should be sent to APPA’s headquarter office. You should not submit documentation of CEUs as you earn them. Units must be obtained in a consecutive four year period and may not carry over for future certification credits. If you recertify early and your documents are approved, your cycle will begin from the new approval period.
What happens to my status if I do not recertify? Your certification rating will be moved to inactive, and you will no longer afford the privileges of the certification credential.
Can a previous holder of the CEFP credential be moved from inactive to active? Those individuals who have been moved to inactive status will have to retake the exam to regain active certification.
Is there due process for those who fail to meet the required deadline? Yes, APPA understands that everyone has personal emergencies and those individuals with extenuating circumstances may submit an appeal.
What are the requirements for those who retire? Retired CEFP holders are not required to recertify. The Certification Department must receive a verification letter of retired status prior to the individual’s recertification cycle ending.
